2012–2013: 1st Quarter (April, May and June 2012)

- Nutrition North Canada (NNC) provided over $16 million in subsidy during April, May and June 2012. Ten foods subsidized at the program's higher subsidy level accounted for more than half this amount: meat, fresh milk, bread, frozen potato products, yogurt, eggs, potatoes, bananas, poultry and unsweetened juice (containers of 250 ml or less). These foods were also among the most subsidized items during the same period in 2011-2012.
- Of the products subsidized at the lower subsidy level, pizza, unsweetened juice (containers of more than 250 ml), seasoned rice and pasta mixes, ice cream and perishable combination foods received the most subsidy during the quarter. This is similar to what was reported for the 1st quarter of 2011-2012.
- NNC provided approximately $4 million more in subsidy (a 34% increase) during the 1st quarter of 2012-2013 compared to the same period in 2011-2012.
