Nutrition North Canada (NNC) provided over $33 million in subsidy during April, May, June 2022. This represents a decrease of 3% compared to the same period last year.
The highest subsidy level, accounted for 14% of total subsidy spending this quarter. This level targets frozen fruits, frozen vegetables, fresh milk and infant formula/food.
The ten foods types subsidized at the program's medium level accounted for 75% of subsidy. These foods include; all fresh fruits, all fresh vegetables, meat, frozen potato products, yogurt, bread, eggs, unsweetened juice of 250ml and less, poultry and UHT milk.
The top food types subsidized at the program's lowest level which accounted for about 9% of the subsidy include; unsweetened juice (containers of more than 250 ml), pizza, ice cream, canned vegetables, fresh and frozen combination foods.
